Koyori the Japanese Lacquer Box Bunko

by Studio GALA, designed by Ryoichi Kobayashi

Koyori is the twisted cords made from Japanese paper. The Koyori box is knitted with lots of the twisted paper cords and are made into box shape. As a finishing, it is coated by ‘Urushi’ the Japanese sumac sap to strengthen it. By this technique, it draws the characteristic of light, strong and more over, water/chemical-resistant. Urushi used on is 100% Japanese Sumac tree sap which is quite rare and highly sought after. It leaves the paper texture but has just a good hardness and authentic mat black color by the lacquer. Simple but smart-looking box calms the atmosphere and add a sophisticated air to the room. Store your treasure, tea cups, cards, towels etc in this special box!
